W: Anybody know now what was the bigger story from Con Ed -- the 5% power cut or the 10% pay cut for the fat executives?

PAUL/BOB: Either of you have thoughts on whether
the Evil Knievel leap is ours or sports'? Question
is asked of me by sports dept.

WARREN: I have one small ? about the KAHN
story--
Do we have to talk to a "spokesman" for
anybody as small as a majority leader of the
City Council?
The only thing lower than a majority leader
of the City Council is whaleshit.
And that's on the bottom of the ocean.

To Whom It May Concern:

Antony [sic] Armstrong-Jones was spelled wrong all day. This is bad and also not good. I'm mad at everybody.

BOB/W/ANDY:

    It's the last blow.
Somebody, I don't know who, tried to slip an amendment into the new death penalty bill to include editors who (a) let typos get in their papers or permit certain assignments that use up news space in certain bad ways.

BOB/W: a homily for today--
let it be said that in the hour of truth it was the signers of the petitions who fled the menaced ship first and with the most unseemly eagerness.
the Old Journalist stayed to improve the product -- with a few idle hangers-on.
it was his finest hour, they would all say years later.

Sann update of publisher's travel plans

WARREN: Don't tell Bob but she
changed her mind about that trip
      to Israel.
She's having it brought here instead.
